Practice target words at home with family
When to use this goal
For students whose target sound is accurate at the word level in therapy and whose family can do short home practice. Home practice adds trials between sessions, and family scores give a second view of accuracy. Base the choice on word-level data and a conversation with the family about time and interest.
- Baseline
- Show the family member how to score: one practice round together, live or by video, where both score the same words and compare. Note how closely the family's scores match the SLP's before relying on them. Agree on how many days a week are realistic.
- Tips
- Score from the returned log: words scored correct out of words practiced. Check the family's scoring against a short SLP probe of the same words each week. Home practice should be brief and positive; families can use any language for directions and praise. A missed week is never held against the student.
- Limits
- Families score differently from SLPs, often more generously, so home data supplements but does not replace school data. Not every family has time or interest, and the goal must not depend on home practice happening.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a 5-minute home practice with a list of 10 target-sound words chosen by the SLP and scored by a family member, the student will say each word on the home list with the target sound produced correctly independently with at least 85% accuracy on target-sound words scored at home, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly home logs, checked against the SLP's probe, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly, from the home log returned to school.
Baseline: 50% accuracy.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
