Choose a speech tool from a picture menu

When to use this goal

For young students who stutter who have learned two or more speech tools (such as a gentle start, a stretchy word, or a pause) and are ready to choose for themselves. Base the choice on SLP data showing the tools can be used in imitation.

Baseline
Play a 10-turn game and record whether the student chose and tried a tool. Note which tools the student prefers.
Tips
Each turn is one opportunity; score correct when the student chooses and tries a tool, whether or not they stutter. Choosing no tool is allowed on some turns if the student says so; record it. Keep the game fun.
Limits
Tool use in games may not carry over to the classroom. The goal does not measure fluency.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a board or card game in which each turn requires a sentence, the student will point to a speech tool on the picture menu, then use that tool on their turn independently in at least 8 of 10 opportunities, across 3 consecutive therapy sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected during each therapy session.

Baseline: 2 of 10 opportunities.
