Say core words the same way each time
When to use this goal
For students whose productions of the same word change from try to try, which makes them hard to understand even for familiar listeners. Present levels decide fit. Choose 10 high-use words the student needs every day (names, more, help, stop, all done).
- Baseline
- Have the student name each of the 10 core words 3 times and write down each production. Score a word as consistent when all 3 match, even if they are not yet fully correct. This is the consistency baseline the SLP compares against.
- Tips
- This goal scores sameness, not correctness: a word said the same way 3 times counts even if one sound is still off. A consistent form is easier for listeners to learn. Track accuracy separately in a syllable-shape goal.
- Limits
- Consistency can rise while accuracy stays flat; read both together. Practicing the exact probe words may inflate results; rotate in a few untrained words. The template does not diagnose.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given 10 high-use core words, each named 3 times in a row from a picture, in a session with no model, the student will say each core word the same way on all 3 tries, with the same sounds and syllables each time independently with at least 70% accuracy on core words said the same way on all 3 tries, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
Baseline: 30% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Motor Speech (Apraxia & Dysarthria).
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
