Use final sounds during class sharing time
When to use this goal
For kindergarten and first-grade students who include final consonants in therapy sentences but drop them when talking in class. Sharing time, show-and-tell, and morning meeting give a short, regular speaking turn. Base the choice on sentence-level data. The template can be adapted to another pattern by changing the condition wording.
- Baseline
- Observe or record 3 sharing turns and count final consonants included out of those needed. Agree with the teacher on a scoring rule, such as a turn counts as correct when no more than one final consonant is dropped.
- Tips
- Each sharing turn is one opportunity, scored correct when the agreed rule is met. Never correct the student during sharing; model the words back naturally. Classroom adults can use a simple tally card. A short practice sentence with the SLP before sharing is a support that should fade.
- Limits
- Sharing turns are short and vary in length. Check the student's dialect for final consonant patterns that are features rather than errors.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a class sharing or show-and-tell turn, observed by the SLP or a classroom adult, the student will include final consonants in the words of their sharing turn independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 2 consecutive months, as measured by direct observation collected during 5 observed class turns per month.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
