Judge whether statements using unit vocabulary are true
When to use this goal
For students whose vocabulary gaps are hard to see because they rarely produce the words; a true-or-false format checks word knowledge without an expressive load. Base the choice on classroom data. Useful alongside sl-rec-003 for students with limited expressive language.
- Baseline
- Write 10 statements per unit with the teacher, balancing true and false, and probe before and after teaching. Chance performance is 50%, so a baseline near 50% means the words are not known. If the goal includes correcting false statements, score that part separately.
- Tips
- Score a judgment correct when it matches the key; if the behavior includes correction, the false statement must also be fixed with an accurate word or fact. Keep false statements plausible (swap a related word) rather than silly so the task measures word knowledge. Avoid statements that depend on general knowledge rather than the vocabulary word.
- Limits
- True-or-false items have a high guessing rate, so use at least 10 items per probe and look at trends. The format shows recognition, not use; pair with sl-sem-018 for production. Writing good items takes teacher time.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given 10 spoken statements that use taught vocabulary from the current unit, about half of them false, the student will judge each statement as true or false and correct the false ones independently with at least 90% accuracy on true-or-false vocabulary statements, on 3 of 4 consecutive unit probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected every two weeks.
Baseline: 55% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Vocabulary & Semantics.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
