Read posted hours and rules at community places
When to use this goal
For middle school students who arrive at closed places or break posted rules they did not read. Covers hours, entry rules, and notices on doors and boards; present levels in reading decide fit, not grade.
- Baseline
- Use real photos from places the student goes. Score each question; note whether errors are reading times, days, or rule words.
- Tips
- Close the loop on trips: the student checks the sign, then the group enters. Include holiday and temporary closure notices.
- Limits
- Photos remove the clutter of a real doorway; check on trips too.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given photos of 8 to 10 posted signs from community places (a pool, library, park, clinic, store) and questions about each, the student will answer when the place is open and what each posted rule says independently with at least 85% accuracy on posted sign questions, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
