Find the right platform or gate using signs

9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who travel through transit centers, train stations, or airports and follow other people instead of the signs. Needs reading line names, numbers, and arrows; present levels decide fit, not grade.

Baseline
Plan 5 places to find across trips. Score correct when the student reaches the right place using signs, with staff a set distance behind.
Tips
Departure boards change platforms; teach checking the board again before boarding.
Limits
Solo travel is a team and family decision based on data, the travel plan, and the student's safety skills; this goal does not decide it. Street crossing and stranger responses are covered by community-safety goals.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, in a transit center, train station, or airport on a travel-training trip, given the line, platform, or gate to find, the student will follow the signs to the named platform, bay, or gate independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive trips, as measured by direct observation collected on each travel-training trip through a station.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Community Access & Travel.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
