Lock the door and take keys when leaving

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who are starting to come and go from home on their own and leave doors unlocked or keys inside. Present levels and the family's plan for the student's independence decide fit, not grade.

Baseline
Have the family or staff track 6 departures. Score correct only when keys are in hand before the door shuts and the lock is set without a reminder.
Tips
A key hook or tray by the door gives the keys one home. A keypad lock or a key tracker can be a fair accommodation; count it as independent use.
Limits
Home data depend on the family. A lockout plan (a spare key with a neighbor or family) is still needed.
