Reply to a classmate's post online

When to use this goal

For students who use a class learning platform but either do not post or post one-word replies such as cool or I agree. Present levels should show sentence writing on a device; the target is a reply that responds to what the classmate actually wrote.

Baseline
Review six recent replies (or give six reply tasks) and score each as met only if it is at least two sentences and names something specific from the post. Generic replies (nice job) are recorded but not counted.
Tips
Teach that a good reply proves you read the post. Model kind and specific replies. Online replies are permanent, so pair with class norms about respectful comments.
Limits
Classmates' posts vary in how much there is to respond to. Platform features (likes, emojis) can replace written replies; set the expectation clearly. The goal does not score conventions.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a classmate's post in the class learning platform and a reply prompt from the teacher, the student will post a reply of at least two complete sentences that names something specific from the classmate's post and adds a comment, a question, or a connection independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive two-week periods, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 1 of 6 opportunities.
