Write first name with one capital and the rest lowercase
When to use this goal
Fits preschool and kindergarten students who write their name in all capitals or in a mix of cases and are ready to learn the convention of one capital at the start. Present levels should show the student writes their name with the letters in order.
- Baseline
- Record five natural name-writing opportunities and note the case of each letter. Many students use capitals because lowercase forms are harder to make; check lowercase letter formation separately before setting the target. Reversals are a handwriting issue, not a case issue.
- Tips
- Change the name card to the correct cases as soon as the goal starts; a model in all capitals teaches the wrong habit. Sign-in gives daily practice. Letter tiles with both cases separate the convention from letter formation.
- Limits
- This goal covers one word. Names with internal capitals or apostrophes need a family-confirmed model. Lowercase letter formation may lag and should be taught with the OT or handwriting goal.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
