Read assigned books in an accessible format

3-5, 6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who qualify for accessible-format books (audio, digital text, or human-narrated) and do not use them for assigned reading. Present levels in independent reading and in using the reading app decide fit.

Baseline
Track five reading assignments and whether the student used the accessible format and finished the pages.
Tips
Following along in the text while listening helps many students. Ask the student which format they prefer.
Limits
The template does not measure comprehension. The AT specialist and team choose the tool from an AT assessment and trial data; the template measures what the student does with it, not the tool's quality.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ac-at-018.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when a class novel or reading assignment is given, with the book available in the student's accessible-format library, the student will download or open the assigned book in the accessible format and read or listen to the assigned pages independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 4 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected weekly.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Assistive Technology Use.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
