Use AT tools to do job tasks

9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students 16 to 21 in work experiences who use AT (text-to-speech for instructions, task apps with pictures or audio, speech-to-text for logs) on the job. Present levels in AT use at school decide fit.

Baseline
Observe six reading or writing moments on a shift and record whether the student used AT and finished the task.
Tips
Use tools the student can keep using after school (phone features, free apps). Talk with the employer about device use on the job.
Limits
Employer rules may limit phone use. The AT specialist and team choose the tool from an AT assessment and trial data; the template measures what the student does with it, not the tool's quality.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at a job site or school-based job, when a task needs reading or writing (such as reading a work order or logging hours), the student will use their AT tool to read or write what the task needs and complete the task independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive work shifts, as measured by direct observation collected each work shift.

Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Assistive Technology Use.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)
