Follow class directions heard through the microphone

K-2, 3-5OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who follow directions by listening in quiet sessions and need to do so in class with a remote microphone. Present levels from classroom observation decide fit.

Baseline
Observe 10 class directions and record whether the student acted on their own, after watching peers, or after a repeat.
Tips
Watching peers is a smart strategy; score it separately so the data show listening. The teacher should face the class and keep the microphone close.
Limits
Room noise and microphone use affect results. The template measures listening for a student whose family chose listening as one route; it never replaces sign language or captions the student also uses.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during general education lessons, when the teacher wearing the remote microphone gives a direction to the class, the student will independently start the direction without needing a peer model or a repeat in at least 8 of 10 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by direct observation collected twice weekly.

Baseline: 4 of 10 opportunities.

  • Observable behavior
  • Criterion
  • Measurement method

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Auditory Skills (Deaf & Hard of Hearing).

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
