Retell a story heard by listening alone

3-5, 6-8Rubric scoreTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who answer questions about stories they hear and are ready to retell a whole story from listening. Present levels in story comprehension decide fit.

Baseline
Score two retells after listening and one after reading or watching a signed version of a similar story, to separate listening from narrative skills.
Tips
Retells in sign count fully; the goal measures what the student heard. Narrative language goals may also apply.
Limits
Narrative skills affect the score. The template measures listening for a student whose family chose listening as one route; it never replaces sign language or captions the student also uses.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ac-aud-028.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given an unfamiliar short story read aloud with the reader's face hidden, the student will retell the story in speech or sign, including the characters, the problem, the main events, and the ending independently, earning a score of at least 9 out of 12 on a 4-row listening retell rubric scored 0 to 3 per row, in 3 of 4 consecutive biweekly probes, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected every two weeks.
