Follow spoken instructions at a job site

9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students in work experiences who are hard of hearing and get instructions from supervisors in noisy settings. Present levels from job-site observation decide fit.

Baseline
Observe six instructions on a shift and record whether the student completed them correctly, with or without a confirm question.
Tips
Confirming back is a workplace skill for everyone. Talk with the employer about reasonable changes such as written task lists.
Limits
Workplaces vary; rewrite the condition for the student's job. The template measures listening for a student whose family chose listening as one route; it never replaces sign language or captions the student also uses.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ac-aud-034.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at a job site with background noise, when the supervisor gives a spoken instruction, the student will carry out the instruction, asking to repeat or confirm any part they missed independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive work shifts, as measured by direct observation collected each work shift.

Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Auditory Skills (Deaf & Hard of Hearing).

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
