Connect hearing devices to a laptop or phone

When to use this goal

For students whose hearing aids, processor, or remote microphone can stream audio from a laptop, tablet, or phone, and who need to set this up for online lessons, videos, and calls. Present levels in device use decide fit.

Baseline
Watch two setups on the devices the student uses and mark each step. Check with the audiologist which streaming options the device supports.
Tips
School laptops may block pairing; involve IT. Keep the step card in the device case.
Limits
Streaming options depend on the device. Hearing technology is one access route the family and student chose; it does not replace sign language, captions, or other visual access where the student uses them.

Criterion

Number of routine steps performed independently.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Task-analysis steps

Write each step so an observer can mark it done or not done.

Data collection

A routine is broken into ordered steps; each step is recorded as independent, supported, or not completed.

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at the start of an online lesson or a video assignment on a school laptop, the student will pair or connect their device to the laptop or phone, set the volume, and check the sound before starting, performing all 6 steps independently, on 3 consecutive setups, as measured by a task-analysis checklist collected weekly.

Baseline: 2 of 6 steps independently.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Task-analysis steps fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Task-analysis checklist gives task-analysis steps data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Hearing Technology Self-Management.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
