Set up the remote microphone for group work
When to use this goal
For students who use a remote microphone and lose access in small-group work, where several peers speak. Present levels in device use and in self-advocacy decide fit.
- Baseline
- Watch five group activities and record whether the microphone was set up and who did it. Ask the student which groups are hardest.
- Tips
- Teach peers to wait for the microphone; this helps everyone take turns. Signing students may need an interpreter in groups as well.
- Limits
- Fast group talk is still hard even with good setup. Hearing technology is one access route the family and student chose; it does not replace sign language, captions, or other visual access where the student uses them.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, at the start of small-group work or a lab, with a table or pass-around microphone, the student will place the table microphone in the middle of the group or ask the group to pass the microphone to each speaker independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected weekly.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
