Request CART captioning for a class or meeting

9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For high school students preparing for college and work, where they must request real-time captioning (CART) or other access themselves. Present levels in self-advocacy and in knowing their accommodations decide fit.

Baseline
List upcoming events that need access and record who requested it. Use mock requests if real ones are few.
Tips
Teach lead times: captioners book weeks ahead. Signing students may request interpreters the same way (see visual communication goals).
Limits
The school stays responsible for access in high school. Hearing technology is one access route the family and student chose; it does not replace sign language, captions, or other visual access where the student uses them.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when planning for a meeting, a dual-enrollment class, a college visit, or a job training with spoken content, the student will contact the right office, request CART or other captioning by the deadline, and confirm the arrangement independently in at least 3 of 4 opportunities, across 2 consecutive semesters, as measured by frequency recording collected monthly.

Baseline: 0 of 4 opportunities.
