Use built-in zoom on a computer-based test
When to use this goal
For students with low vision who take state or classroom tests on a computer with built-in zoom, contrast, and line reader tools. Present levels in using these tools on practice tests decide fit.
- Baseline
- Watch a practice test and record, section by section, whether the student set up the tools. Ask what they would change.
- Tips
- Practice on the real platform well before testing day. Tools must also be listed as accommodations or designated supports where required.
- Limits
- The template does not measure test scores. Platforms change by year; recheck the tools each fall.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a practice test on the testing platform with zoom, color contrast, and line reader tools available, the student will turn on the zoom and contrast tools they need at the start of each section and adjust them for graphics independently in 4 of 4 opportunities, across 2 consecutive practice tests, as measured by direct observation collected with each practice test.
Baseline: 1 of 4 opportunities.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Low Vision & Visual Efficiency.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 4 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
