Respond to peers in signed discussion

3-5, 6-8OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For signing students in a class or group where discussion happens in ASL, directly or through an interpreter, who follow single signers but lose track when several people sign. Present levels in signed conversation decide fit.

Baseline
Observe five discussions and record whether the student responded to a peer's point at least once with a related comment.
Tips
Group rules (one signer at a time, a signal before signing) help everyone. With an interpreter, build in time for lag.
Limits
ASL is a complete language; this template measures one access or language skill, and the student's broader language goals belong in expressive and receptive language with sign as the mode.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ac-sig-013.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a small-group or class discussion in ASL about a shared text or topic, the student will follow the discussion and respond to a peer's point by agreeing, disagreeing, or adding to it in ASL independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected weekly.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.
