Stay on the assigned app or page during device work
When to use this goal
For students who switch to games, videos, or chat when working on a school device. Base the choice on momentary screen checks. Device filtering should be in place; this goal measures the student's behavior within it.
- Baseline
- Run 10 screen checks per period (every 2 minutes) for 3 periods and mark on-assignment or off. Use the device management dashboard if the school has one to confirm. Note what the student switches to; a pattern of switching when the task gets hard suggests escape and a help request goal.
- Tips
- Name the assigned app or page clearly so the check is unambiguous. A planned free-choice minute at the end makes the rule easier to keep. Treat a quick return after a reminder as progress on the second behavior option. Pair with a sustained-attention goal if the student stays on the page but does not work.
- Limits
- Screen checks can be gamed by quick tab switching; the management dashboard is more reliable where available. Does not measure work produced.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
