Report to the adult after finishing an assigned task

When to use this goal

For students whose present levels show finished work left on the desk without telling anyone, so it is never collected or the next task never comes. Fits classroom jobs and independent work alike.

Baseline
For a week, note what the student does when a task is finished: reports, waits silently, starts something else, or wanders. Count how long finished work sits before an adult notices. Check the student has a way to report (words, card, or device).
Tips
Each finished task is one opportunity. Met means the student reports completion to the right adult within about 1 minute and before starting an unrelated activity. The done card is a support for students who do not yet use words to report; fade it to a raised hand or a short phrase.
Limits
In busy rooms the adult may not be reachable; agree on an alternate (place work in a tray and raise the card). Does not measure whether the task was done well.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, after finishing an assigned task or classroom job, the student will report to the adult who assigned the task that it is finished and ask what is next independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected daily and summarized weekly.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Assignment Completion.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
