Keep producing at job coach checks
When to use this goal
For transition-age students in work-based learning whose present levels show long gaps in production during a shift, often with significant support needs. Use when the coach supervises several students and cannot time one continuously. The task must already be trained; present levels decide the target.
- Baseline
- Use 12 checks per 60-minute shift (every 5 minutes) on a clipboard or phone tally, scoring producing or not producing at each moment. Collect at least four shifts and note the task, the number of coworkers present, and the time since the last break.
- Tips
- Define producing for each task in adult work terms. Talking with a supervisor or coworker about the task counts as producing, as does a scheduled break. Coaches can share the data sheet with the student at the end of the shift, the way a supervisor reviews a shift report.
- Limits
- Momentary checks miss short gaps; pair with a production count if the employer tracks output. Site factors (noise, supervisor changes, task difficulty) shift results and should be noted.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a 60-minute shift at a work-based learning site scored at 12 momentary job coach checks, the student will be working on the assigned job task by handling, sorting, stocking, cleaning, or entering items as trained independently in at least 10 of 12 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks of shifts, as measured by direct observation collected each shift and summarized weekly.
Baseline: 6 of 12 opportunities.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
