Check a picture direction card in class
When to use this goal
For students with significant support needs in general education classes who cannot follow the fast spoken directions given to the class. A paraprofessional or peer gives a picture card with the steps. Present levels, not grade, decide the number of steps; images stay age-matched.
- Baseline
- Record five group directions with the card and score each as all steps, some steps, or none, with the prompt level used.
- Tips
- Cards can be made in advance for routine directions (open book, take notes, partner talk). Fade the paraprofessional to a check at the end. Use real photos of class materials.
- Limits
- Teachers' directions change daily; cards cover routines best. Does not measure spoken directions.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
