Put materials back in their labeled spot at cleanup
When to use this goal
For young children whose present levels show materials left out, dumped in the wrong bin, or handed to an adult at cleanup. Bins must have picture labels the child can match. Matching objects to pictures is a prerequisite.
- Baseline
- Observe several cleanups and record, for each item set the child used, whether it ended up in its labeled spot without an adult pointing. Check that the child can match an object to its picture label in a quick probe; if not, teach matching first.
- Tips
- Each item set the child used is one opportunity (one puzzle, one basket of blocks). Met means the set is in its labeled spot, not nearby or in another bin. Keep labels at child eye level and identical to the pictures used in teaching.
- Limits
- Cleanup is a group routine; peers may put the child's materials away, which removes opportunities. Does not measure speed; add a duration measure if cleanup drags.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when the cleanup signal is given at the end of center time, the student will return each used item to the bin or shelf spot with the matching picture label independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected daily during cleanup and summarized weekly.
Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
