Keep art materials together in a tray

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For preschool children whose materials drift across the table, onto the floor, or into a peer's space during table activities. The child should be able to hold and place materials. Present levels, not age alone, decide the number of materials.

Baseline
Watch five uses of materials during a table activity and record whether each one went back in the tray. Note whether peers' materials get mixed in.
Tips
Trays with outlines make the target clear. Count five planned uses per activity. Praise putting back, not just finishing.
Limits
Busy or very short activities may give few chances to put materials back. Does not measure cleanup at the end of the activity; see ef-org-006 for that.

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a table art activity with a personal tray of three to five materials, the student will return each material to the personal tray after using it independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by direct observation collected three times per week.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Organization.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
