Gather the materials for an activity before starting it

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young children who start building or crafting, then stop repeatedly to look for what they need. For children who can name common classroom materials.

Baseline
Set up a few familiar activities and ask the child to get ready without help. Record which materials were gathered before starting and how many trips were needed. Confirm materials are reachable and labeled.
Tips
Each activity is one opportunity. Met means all needed materials (from a list of 3 to 5) are at the workspace before the first step. One missing item scored as not met but note how many were gathered. Keep activities with the same number of materials during data collection.
Limits
Young children's success depends on how visible the materials are; keep the setup consistent. Does not measure whether the activity is completed.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, before starting a craft or building activity with a picture of the finished product, the student will name or point to the materials the activity needs and collect them before starting independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Planning.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
