Revise a project plan when a checkpoint is missed

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who make plans but whose present levels show that once a plan slips they abandon it. For students with an existing planning goal or habit.

Baseline
Review recent plans for missed checkpoints and what happened next; most students either ignore the plan or move everything to the last day. Record how many missed checkpoints led to any revision.
Tips
Each missed checkpoint is one opportunity. Met means the remaining parts are given new dates within one school day of the miss, the new dates are spread, and the final date is still before the due date. Revising is a skill; do not treat a miss itself as failure.
Limits
Opportunities only arise when plans slip, which varies. Depends on a plan with checkpoints existing in the first place.

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when a planned checkpoint on a long-term assignment is missed, the student will rewrite the remaining dates on the plan so the assignment can still be finished by the due date independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive monthly summaries, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected each missed checkpoint and summarized monthly.

Baseline: 0 of 5 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Planning.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
