Launch shift tasks from a posted list

9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For transition-age students in work-based learning who finish one task and then wait for the supervisor to assign the next, even with a task list posted. The student should be able to do each listed task. Present levels at the site, not grade, decide fit.

Baseline
The job coach records each task change point on one or two shifts: whether the student moved to the next listed task within 2 minutes without being told, after a point to the list, or only after the supervisor assigned it. Note tasks the student skips.
Tips
Six change points per shift is typical for a three- or four-task list; count what the site really has. Fade the job coach's distance before fading the checkbox list. Supervisors like this goal because it maps to self-direction on employer reviews.
Limits
Sites change task lists without notice; count only shifts with a list. Does not measure task quality or pace. For tasks given verbally, see ef-wm-016.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at the start of a work-based learning shift, with the day's tasks on a posted or handheld list, the student will independently check the task list and begin the next unfinished task within 2 minutes without the supervisor assigning it in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks of shifts, as measured by direct observation collected each shift, summarized weekly.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Task Initiation.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
