When to use this goal

For students who swim or play in water during adapted PE, community trips, or family outings and who run on the deck, go into deep water, or swim without the buddy. Present levels in following posted rules and in swim ability decide fit; the swim instructor and lifeguard rules come first.

Baseline
During 2 sessions, check at 6 planned times (entry, every ten minutes, exit) whether the student was following all three rules. All checks must be correct for the student to be safe, so the target is six of six.
Tips
Mark the student's allowed area with a lane line or a noodle. Choose the buddy with the student. Use the pool's own rule words.
Limits
Never replaces lifeguard or staff supervision. Swim skill goals belong to adapted PE.
