Serve self from a shared bowl at snack

When to use this goal

For preschoolers who eat when food is placed in front of them but do not yet take a portion from a shared bowl or pass it on. Present levels in grasp, reach, and waiting decide fit. Family-style snack builds serving, waiting, and passing in one short routine.

Baseline
Record each time a shared bowl reaches the student across 3 snack days: did the student take a portion with the utensil and pass it on without help. Note the utensil used; tongs and spoons are different motor tasks.
Tips
Start with dry foods that are easy to scoop. Let the student choose whether to take a portion; passing the bowl without taking any still counts as a correct response. Share the routine with families who eat family-style at home.
Limits
Not for students with feeding plans that limit self-feeding or textures; follow the feeding plan. Does not measure how much the student eats.
