Measure ingredients with cups and spoons for a recipe
When to use this goal
For students who cook with help and need to measure amounts rather than pour by eye. Present levels in reading fractions on measuring tools and OT input on pouring and leveling decide which measures to start with.
- Baseline
- Observe one recipe with 5 measures and score each as correct (right tool, filled to the line or leveled). Record whether errors are tool selection (1/2 cup vs. 1 cup) or filling (heaping instead of level), because those need different teaching.
- Tips
- Color-coded measuring sets make the tool-selection step easier and can be faded to a plain set. Dry ingredients (rice, flour) make leveling visible. Fraction reading itself is a math-area skill; this template applies it.
- Limits
- Accuracy is judged by eye (filled to the line); a kitchen scale gives exact data if needed. Liquid measures require reading at eye level, which adds a step.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a recipe with 5 measured ingredients (1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon) and a set of labeled measuring cups and spoons, the student will measure each ingredient using the tool and amount the recipe shows independently with at least 90% accuracy on measured ingredients, on 3 consecutive cooking sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly during cooking lessons.
Baseline: 40% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Functional Academics.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
