Find a store with a mall directory map

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students on community trips who ask staff where a store is, or who walk the mall until they see it. Present levels in reading names, letters, and numbers and in using a school map (fn-fa-031) decide fit.

Baseline
On 1 or 2 trips, give 5 store names one at a time and record whether the student reached each without verbal directions.
Tips
Teach the directory list (alphabetical or by category) and the number code. Staff stay with the group per the outing plan. Large hospitals and transit hubs use the same kind of directory.
Limits
Requires community trips. Malls differ; the skill needs practice in more than one.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a community trip to a mall or large store, given the name of a store or department to find, the student will find the store on the directory, locate the you-are-here mark, and walk to the store independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 2 consecutive community trips, as measured by direct observation collected at each community trip with a directory.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Functional Academics.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
