Act on a text message request
When to use this goal
For students who have a phone and get texts from family, job coaches, or staff but do not act on them (meet at the front door, the bus is late). Present levels in reading short sentences or using text-to-speech decide fit.
- Baseline
- Send 8 planned texts over a week with clear requests (meet at room 12, bring the blue folder). Record whether the student replied and did the action within the time asked.
- Tips
- Agree on short texts with one request each. Teach a standard reply (OK, on my way). Follow school phone rules and get family permission for staff texting; use a school messaging system if required.
- Limits
- Does not cover deciding whether a text from an unknown number is safe (see online and scam safety goals).

- Record up to 8 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
