Spend free time at home on a hobby

When to use this goal

For middle and high school students who have a hobby they like (drawing, building models, a collection, cooking, music) but rarely start it at home without a family member setting it up. Base the choice on family report. The family records time on a simple log.

Baseline
Ask the family to log two hobby times a week for two weeks: minutes on the hobby and how it started. Keep materials ready and visible. Start from an interest inventory with the student and family, and offer age-matched choices; a preferred repetitive activity is a valid way to relax, not a problem to fix.
Tips
The hobby is the student's choice, including collections and repetitive hobbies. Family logs can be a text with minutes. Teachers can share hobby clubs or online groups that fit.
Limits
Family report varies with family time. Time does not show quality or growth in the hobby.
