Balance solo and group leisure each week

9-12FrequencyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For older students and transition students who spend nearly all free time alone and have said they want more time with others (or the reverse). Present levels and the student's own goal decide fit. Solo leisure is valued; the student sets the mix.

Baseline
Ask the student to log all leisure for two weeks, marking solo or with others. Discuss the log with them; the target reflects what they want.
Tips
Online gaming with friends counts as group leisure. The student owns the goal and can change it. Pair with planning and inviting goals.
Limits
Self-report. Opportunities depend on transport and community options.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of times a defined behavior occurs during a set observation period.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Keep every observation the same length.

Criterion wording

Data collection

Each occurrence of a clearly defined behavior is tallied during a fixed observation period.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during the week, outside of school hours, as logged by the student, the student will take part in a leisure activity with at least one other person (in person or online) and log it independently at least 2 times per week, across 4 consecutive weeks, as measured by frequency recording collected weekly, from the leisure log.

Baseline: 0 times per week.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Frequency fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Frequency (event) recording gives frequency data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Leisure & Recreation.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
