Care for a plant or garden plot
When to use this goal
For older students who like plants or the outdoors and have chosen gardening as a hobby (a classroom plant, a school garden bed, a home plant). Present levels decide fit. Plant care is a calm, age-matched hobby with clear, checkable steps.
- Baseline
- Set the care schedule and count completed care days for a month, using the calendar and the plant's condition as checks. Start from an interest inventory with the student and family, and offer age-matched choices; a preferred repetitive activity is a valid way to relax, not a problem to fix.
- Tips
- Teach the soil check (finger test or moisture card) so the student waters only when needed. Score each care day as met or not.
- Limits
- Plants die for many reasons; the goal measures care, not the plant's health.

- Record up to 8 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
