Sort pictures into categories

PK, K-2Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For preschoolers who sort by color or shape (fn-pk-012) and are ready to group items by what they are: foods, animals, clothes, vehicles. Present levels in vocabulary and in sorting decide fit; start with two very different categories.

Baseline
Use 10 cards from two categories and score each placement. Use only pictures the student can name or point to, so the probe tests sorting, not vocabulary.
Tips
Use real items first, then photos. Clean-up time gives natural sorting practice. Pick categories that fit the student's life and culture.
Limits
Category knowledge depends on vocabulary and experience; check with the SLP. Does not measure naming the category.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 picture cards from two categories (foods and animals) and two labeled bins, the student will put each picture in the bin for its category independently with at least 90% accuracy on items sorted, across 3 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 40% accuracy.
