Go to and return from a pull-out session

K-2, 3-5OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who receive services in another room and need an adult to collect and return them each time. Fit depends on present levels in walking familiar routes and reading a schedule, and on building layout; the route must be short, familiar, and approved by the team for the student to walk with a pass.

Baseline
For 8 trips, record whether the student went the planned route, arrived, and returned within the expected time without being collected. Agree with each provider how they will report arrival times.
Tips
Start with the trip back to class, which is usually more familiar, and fade the adult's distance gradually. Tell office staff and nearby teachers about the plan. Students who use AAC can carry a pass that states where they are going.
Limits
Not for students whose safety plan requires an escort in hallways. Does not measure what happens in the session itself.

Skill

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when the schedule shows a speech, OT, or resource session and the class clock reaches the start time, the student will walk to the service room with the pass, check in, and walk back to class at the end independently in at least 7 of 8 opportunities, across 2 consecutive two-week periods, as measured by direct observation collected at each session, summarized every two weeks.

Baseline: 1 of 8 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Functional Routines.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
