Put a favorite item in the all-done bin

PKOpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For preschool students who hold on to a preferred item or cry and drop to the floor when a favorite activity ends. Present levels decide fit, not age. Start with items the student likes but is not most attached to.

Baseline
Plan 5 endings a day for a week, from mildly to strongly preferred items, and record what happened at each. Note which items are hardest so you can start with easier ones.
Tips
Show when the item will come back; ending is easier when it is not forever. Give a warning before the timer ends. If upset is strong, plan with the emotional regulation goal so the student has a calming option too.
Limits
Does not measure how fast the student leaves; use a latency goal if speed is the concern. Not suited for items the student needs for comfort or regulation, which should travel with them.

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Each planned or naturally occurring opportunity is recorded as correct/independent, prompted, or not demonstrated.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when the visual timer for a preferred activity runs out, the student will put the preferred item in the all-done bin and walk to the next activity independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected daily, 5 planned endings.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Transitions Between Activities.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
