Find a listed task during down time
When to use this goal
For students who stand idle or take out a phone when the assigned task ends and no one is nearby. Base the choice on present levels in reading a list and in initiating (fn-voc-009); this is the step after asking for the next task when no one is available to ask.
- Baseline
- Record the next 5 down-time events: how long before the student started something, and whether it was from the list. A planned absence of the supervisor for a few minutes creates the opportunity safely.
- Tips
- Keep the list short and the tasks always available (supplies on hand). Employers value workers who find work; name that for the student. This goal pairs with fn-voc-009; asking first, then using the list when no one answers.
- Limits
- Down time is unpredictable; planned absences supplement real events. Some sites prefer workers to wait; follow the site's expectations.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when the assigned task is finished and the supervisor is not available, with a posted list of standing tasks (wipe counters, restock napkins, sweep), the student will choose a task from the standing list and begin it within 2 minutes independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive data collection periods, as measured by direct observation collected at each down-time event, summarized every five.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
