Request more food or drink at snack

When to use this goal

For young children who reach, cry or wait when they want more, and who are learning a word, sign or symbol to ask. Communication levels, not age, decide the mode.

Baseline
Set up five chances at snack by serving small portions, and record whether the child asked (and how), reached, or waited. Note the mode used at home.
Tips
Small portions create natural chances to ask. Honor every request the plan allows. Model with core words (more, drink, eat) on the child's device.
Limits
Food textures, liquid thickness, positioning for safe swallowing and any swallowing precautions come from the student's feeding or swallowing plan, which this goal never changes. Portion sizes and foods follow the plan and family wishes. The goal is about asking, not about how much the child eats.
