Run with mature form on a component rubric
When to use this goal
For students who can run but with stiff arms, flat feet, or no moment when both feet are off the ground, so they fall behind in tag and relay games. A component rubric shows which parts of the run are changing. Fit depends on a video or live scoring of the run, not grade.
- Baseline
- Score two trials on two days, ideally on video so you can slow it down. Compare the parts; the arm swing and the flight phase usually change at different times. Check footwear and surface.
- Tips
- Score the same distance and surface each time. Share the rubric with the classroom teacher so recess play counts as practice. Pair with mt-gm-010 if the student needs coordinated running first.
- Limits
- Rubric scores depend on the scorer; check agreement with a second scorer now and then. Students with orthopedic or cardiac conditions need medical guidance on running.
