Get through turnstiles and revolving doors
When to use this goal
For students who stop at turnstiles, fare gates or revolving doors and need an adult to guide them through, or get bumped by the turning door. Fits students on transit training or community routes; students who use a device or prefer it can use the accessible gate or side door, which this goal counts as correct.
- Baseline
- Record what happens at each turnstile or revolving door over two or three trips: went through alone, used the accessible gate, needed help, or turned back. Note the parts that are hard (tapping the card, timing the push, stepping in with the turning door) to choose a teaching step.
- Tips
- Turnstiles and revolving doors show up on almost every transit and community route. Teach the timing: wait for an opening, step in with the door, keep walking at its speed. Make sure the student knows the accessible gate is there for them to use without needing to explain why.
- Limits
- Community trips are not daily; data builds slowly. Fare payment (tapping a card) is a separate money or transit skill if it is hard. Crowded stations change the task; note the time of day.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
