Take turns with equipment and rotate positions in a team game
When to use this goal
For students who hold the ball instead of passing, stay in one spot when the team rotates, or leave the team area, so peers stop including them. Base the choice on observation of three team games during baseline; this is a participation skill, not a sport skill.
- Baseline
- Count 10 opportunities (rotation signals and passing moments) in each of three games and record how many the student completed without a teacher cue. Note whether the student knows the rotation order; a floor map fixes not knowing, while reminders address not noticing the signal.
- Tips
- Team games happen in most PE units; pick one game type and keep it for the data. The peer partner should be a willing volunteer who is told exactly what cue to give. This supports peer interaction and belongs alongside social goals.
- Limits
- Opportunities vary by game and by how much the ball comes to the student; count only actual opportunities. Does not measure skill with the equipment. Students who avoid team games for social reasons may need a social goal first.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a team game in PE with rotation signaled by the teacher, the student will pass the equipment to a teammate when the rule calls for it and move to the new position at each rotation signal independently in at least 8 of 10 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weekly games, as measured by direct observation collected weekly during a team game.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
