Hand a picture card to ask for movement

PKOpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young children who climb furniture, run or crash into things when they need movement, and who can learn to ask with a picture card, sign or device for the swing, trampoline or a movement game. Communication level decides the mode.

Baseline
Note five moments a day when the child seeks movement and what they do. Make sure a movement option is truly available when they ask.
Tips
Every request is honored, even briefly. Movement seeking is a need; this goal gives the child a way to ask, not a reason to wait.
Limits
The goal does not ask the child to move less. Equipment use follows the OT's safety guidance.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during free play or center time, when the student seeks movement, the student will hand a picture card, sign or touch a symbol to ask for a movement activity (such as the swing, the trampoline or a crash pad) with no adult prompts in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected daily.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Sensory Processing & Regulation.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
