Roll a bowling ball with an underhand swing
When to use this goal
For students who push or throw a bowling ball with two hands and are ready for a one-handed underhand roll. Present levels, not grade, decide fit. Use a light plastic ball and plastic pins in the gym.
- Baseline
- Score the skill on the rubric across at least 3 PE sessions before setting a target, filming a few attempts if the family and school allow it so two scorers can agree. Score each component from what is seen, not from whether the ball went where it should. Use the same ball and distance on every probe.
- Tips
- The underhand roll carries over to bowling, bocce and many playground games. Score form, then count pins in a separate game if the student enjoys a score. A bench-lined lane keeps the ball close and saves chasing time.
- Limits
- Form scores do not show aim or pin counts. Ball weight changes the swing, so note any change. It does not cover the community alley routine.
