Act out or point to show action words

K-2, PKOpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students and early communicators who use a few general verbs (go, do, make) and need more specific action words (stomp, tiptoe, toss, squeeze). Responses can be movement, pointing, or a device. Present levels in language decide the verb set.

Baseline
Present each of the 10 verbs once in random order. Accept any clear movement or point. Note which verbs the student confuses (toss and throw), since near pairs are taught together later.
Tips
Teach verbs through movement, then pictures, then use in sentences. Offer seated or adapted movements for students with motor needs; pointing to the picture is always an option.
Limits
Shows receptive meaning only. Some verbs are hard to act out (think, decide); keep the set to observable actions.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a small-group lesson, given a spoken action word from a taught set of 10, the student will act out the action or point to the picture that shows it independently in at least 8 of 10 opportunities, across 3 consecutive sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected twice weekly.

Baseline: 3 of 10 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Vocabulary.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
