Follow agreed group chat norms with peers

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students whose group chat messages lead to conflict or removal (many repeated messages, all caps, off-topic posts, or replies that read as harsh). Present levels decide fit. The norms are written with the student and the class, not imposed on the student alone.

Baseline
With the student's knowledge, review their last 10 messages in a school-managed chat and mark each against the norms. Ask the student which norms are hard and why; repeated messages often mean they did not get an answer.
Tips
Each message is an opportunity. Use only school-managed chats; do not monitor private accounts. Review messages with the student, not behind their back. Teach peers and the student how to signal "I'm busy" so silence is not read as ignoring.
Limits
Norms differ across groups; write them down. The goal does not cover what happens in private chats, which families may choose to support at home.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, in a school-managed class or club group chat, the student will send group chat messages that meet the agreed norms (on topic, one message instead of several repeats, no all caps, kind wording) independently in at least 9 of 10 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weekly reviews, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly from a review of 10 messages.

Baseline: 5 of 10 opportunities.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Peer Interaction.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
