Stay in a small-group conversation with classmates

9-12DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For older students who leave group conversations quickly when the topic shifts or more than one person is talking. Present levels and the student's sensory needs decide fit. Staying can be listening and adding a comment now and then; it does not require constant talk.

Baseline
Time 3 to 5 group conversations from the moment the student joins to the moment they leave. Note what was happening when they left (topic change, loud space, several people talking).
Tips
Leaving with a closing is a fine end point; it shows control over the exit. Pick spaces with less noise at first. The student's choice of group matters.
Limits
Groups break up for many reasons; stop timing when the group ends. Duration does not measure how much the student talked.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Peer Interaction.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
